Major John MacRae-Gilstrap of Ballimore
Was one of the people who helped Alexander Macrae write the Clan History book, and was named in the Preface. He was one of the first to take an interest in this work, and who, in addition to old family papers, placed also at my disposal a large quantity of material collected at his own expense in the Register House, Edinburgh

Surgeon John Macrae, son of Farquhar, took a copy of the History to India, where a copy of it was made by Colonel Sir John Macra of Ardintoul about 1816. This copy is now in the possession of Captain John MacRae Gilstrap of Ballimore
