Answer:The kind of fly is DRAGON -- a dragonfly. This puzzle is hard because SHAR_ and _ILL can be SHARK and KILL, SHARP and PILL, or SHARD and DILL. SKI_ and _AIL can be SKIN and NAIL or SKIP and PAIL. Maybe it's easier to think of six-letter words for kinds of flies. If DRAGON comes to you, then the rest is easy:
