I have a business trip scheduled for a "SIMposium" in Boston, which will take place from about 4 pm on Sunday 9/11/2005 through about 6 pm on Tuesday 9/13/2005.

When I traveled to Boston in September, 2005, I checked active.com for scheduled runs anywhere between New York and Boston. I arranged a red-eye flight to New York, rented a car, and then participated in runs in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York states.

I'll get John Adams to drive me to work (or else take the train if he's not available) then take the company limo to the LAX airport.  Then someone can come and "rescue" my car from the parking lot before it gets abducted.

Sat 9/10/2005 8:00 AM Norwalk (Lightfoot) Summer Series Half Marathon

You might want to drive up there to see the race, a 2 hour drive for you. (See directions from Whitehouse Station NJ to Norwalk CT)  The race starts at 8:00, so I expect to cross the finish line around 10:00, and then hang around until about noon before heading up to Boston. But if you're there, we might find some touristy things to do during the afternoon in the Norwalk area, which would be fine since I won't be in any tearing rush to get to Boston.  Typically at well-attended runs, most businesses don't miss the marketing potential of such a captive audience, so there are sure to be some interesting things to do there.

Sat 9/17/2005 4:00 AM get up and drive to Northport NY

The Great Cow Harbor 10k, at 158 Laurel Ave, Northport NY, is said to be one of the premier races in the country. (See directions from Whitehouse Station to Northport NY.)  They expect over 5,000 participants, and over 25,000 spectators.  (See www.cowharborrace.com/.)  This might be another one you might want to come and see, although it's a 2 hour drive, about halfway to the end of Long Island -- that may be a bit much.  The race actually starts at 8:30.  It's a staggered start, based on predicted finish time.  For me, my prediction would be 50 minutes, so I'll be done running at about 9:30 or so.  I can start heading back to Whitehouse Station around 10 to get me there around noonish for an anniversary party, if that's what we'll be doing.

Sun 9/18/2005 6:00 AM get up and drive to Berkeley Heights

At first, I was thinking I would just go straight to the airport, smelling something like a Great Cow after running the Great Cow Harbor 10k, but then I noticed there will be a 5k race on Sunday in Berkeley Heights. (http://www.berkeleyheights5k.com/.)  How could I pass this up?  It begins at 9:30 at the corner of Park Ave and Plainfield Ave, at the Memorial Park.  If you weren't able to make either of the 2-hour drives to Norwalk or to Northport, then maybe you could come with me to Berkeley Heights.  The race starts at 9:30, and should take about 25 minutes.  We can hang around for half an hour or so after the race, and then head back to Whitehouse Station in time for me to take a shower before heading to the JFK airport for my 6:00 PM flight back to LAX on AA 21.  (See directions from Whitehouse Sta NJ to JFK Airport).

Flights leave for LAX just about every hour, so I might be able to stand-by for an earlier flight once I get to the airport.  Every flight is about 6 hours long, minus the three hour time difference, so they land three hours (time difference) after they take off.  If I get on an earlier flight, I'll call the limo to let them know when to get me at the airport.
